Take your place at the table

As we come into winter and the weather gets colder it can be quite a challenge to keep your skin healthy and glowing. The combination of cold weather outside and centralized heat inside could leave your skin feeling dry and itchy and just not as healthy looking as in the summer.

Know what we are talking about?

Well here are the 5 top tips you can try right away to have glowing skin all year round!

Keep Away From Hot Baths & Showers

The truth is, it can be very tempting to take a hot bath when it’s cold outside. However, a long hot bath (or shower) could take away the moisture from your skin leaving it dry. A hot bath or shower can also result in your skin getting a little inflamed. This then leads to your skins natural balance of moisture getting interrupted resulting in dry skin. Where possible try taking a shorter warm shower instead.

Moisturize. Moisturize. Moisturize

You know that you need to moisturize when you’re out in the sun in summer but did you know that moituerizer is just as important if not more so in the winter months? Moisturize immediately after a warm bath or shower to help the battle against dry skin. Pat yourself dry and apply moisturizer so that moisture was lost can be restored. Choose a moisturizer that is oil-based and made with natural ingredients where possible. Never peel off dry skin.

Heading off outside into the cold, well take with you a small bottle of moisturizer that you can use throughout the day as the chilly weather can really affect your skin and dry it out. Also wear gloves to protect your hands from the harsh elements.

Also prevent chapped lips by using a lip balm with lanolin. In order to battle rough and cracked feet, apply lotion or cream on your feet before bedtime and then wear your socks throughout the night. This will help the skin effectively absorb the cream that was applied. Also do not forget to scrub the calluses on your feet with pumice stone once a week to remove the dead skin.

Use A Humidifier

A humidifier is a device that emits water vapor in order to increase the level of moisture in the air. This device is useful in winter because the lack of moisture in the winter air causes skin to dry out. Aside from keeping your skin hydrated, a humidifier can also relieve nasal congestion and it can encourage a good night’s rest. Remember, sleep can be a positive factor in keeping your skin healthy and glowing.

Keep Yourself Hydrated

It is often easy to think about the need to drink water in summer because of the warm weather, but water is often overlooked in the winter. However, drinking water is necessary in keeping you and your skin hydrated. When your skin is hydrated, it is more elastic and will be less likely to crack keeping it looking youthful. Try to get into your day half your body weight in ounces of water to make sure your not dehydrated.

Add Skin Rejuvenating Foods To Your Diet

Look after your skin during these winter months by loading up your diet with skin friendly nutrients such as Vitamin C. Great sources of vitamin C include citris fruit and dark leafy greend. Vitamin C actually helps your body boost its production of collagen which helps to keep your skin looking youthfull.

If you follow the tips above above, you will be well on your way in keeping your skin healthy during the winter season. Just don’t forget to seek the help of a dermatologist for treatment if you belive you might have a skin condition.
