I am not sure whether restaurant waitresses hate me or not for changing the food menu to keep my diet on check. But If you only realize how fatty restaurant foods can be, you would want to make some changes too.
If you are taking your new summer diet seriously, you are definitely avoiding all kinds of foods that you donât know the ingredients. It really sucks though, to see all your friends enjoying their food and you eating your boring cold salad.
But what If I tell you that if you follow my guide on how to eat healthy on the go, you will enjoy more going out to restaurants and still be able to eat some good and at the same time healthy foods ?
Of course there are many foods that âyou can not saveâ! Forget about that fettuccine Alfredo because that one will kill your diet for sure.
I am going to show you some tricks on how to eat healthy in restaurants so you donât waste all that time you spent running on the treadmill.
Sauces are the number one enemy of any diet. Most of the times, restaurants will fill your dish with a fatty sauce to make the food taste better. Most of them contain a lot of fat, sugar and chemicals to preserve the food.
I know a lot of people are super fans of street Chinese food, but those are one of the worst enemies of any six pack. The fried food covered in a sugary sauce will not only make you gain weight but it is really bad for your over all health.
I donât know if you have taken a look at Panda Express chicken, but it doesnât even look like chicken. It looks like a fried nugget ( which most of the times is made of all parts of a chicken grounded⦠I said all parts ! )
Instead of going for the fat sauce, choose a natural tomato sauce or anything low in calorie. Most of menus include a healthier choice for sauces. If it doesnât have it, then just eat it without it.
Another way to make your meals healthier in a restaurant is to avoid all kinds of fried food. I always ask for grilled meat instead of fried.
You can almost make any meat less fatty if you ask the waitress for the meat to be grilled. Terms like âdryâ and âno oilâ will help the waitress understand what you want.
Example: ask for âgrilled chickenâ instead of âcrispyâ. Just think about that piece of meat being submerged in a pot of oil; that will help you make a better choice.

You will save a lot of calories if you donât eat a lot of carbs. But if you do, order your plate accompanied with a high fibrous food like brown rice, beans, broccoli, etc. High fiber foods are also good for weight management, helps to control blood sugar levels and helps to curb your appetite.
Instead of white pasta or white tortilla, choose a better version of it, like whole wheat pasta, tortilla and bread.
It is hard to find a restaurant that sells low fat steak; your best choices are chicken and seafood.
I know how good it feels to go to a steak house and eat all you can and just the way you like it. But it is not worth the pain it will cause to burn it all. At least when I go to a steak house, I want to eat a lot because it is so good, but what happens is that most of the times I feel so full that I can nothing for the rest of the day; it sucks!
The tempting time after you finish your plate and the waitress comes with a dessert menu is very hard. It is a pain to see people on the next table eating a big chunk of cheese cake or a huge banana split; but everything changes when you see their shape lol or even better their medical record.
My wife and I are a big fans of frozen yogurt. Have you seen the calories in cup of frozen yogurt? In most places a full cup of fat free and low sugar frozen yogurt will have only 100 calories ( a plain cheesecake has 400 calories and most of it from fat).
It is actually not hard to start asking for these changes when you eat out; itâs a matter of creating a habit. Your food will still taste awesome and you wonât feel guilty after youâre done eating.
It always helps when you use the word âallergyâ. The waitress will take extra care to make sure your food comes as you ordered. What you usually do to make sure your food comes in a healthier way?
