If there were such a term, Alan and I would be considered picnic aficionados. We picnic like it’s going out of style: at wine tastings, breakfast at the beach, on a grassy knoll to catch a summer click and to hear some classical music at the bowl.  It’s an easy date and meal option and we love that it’s so easy going!

Of course, like all other things in life, I like to picnic in style (functionality is a close second)!  Alan and I met Sarah, editor of Smitten Studio and designer of A Sunny Afternoon in Palm Springs at Modernism Week.  I love her line of picnic and home goods as it embodies our favorites: modern design mixed with rustic outdoor feel. Plus, everything is designed and handmade by Sarah in Los Angeles and her father in Michigan (Alan’s home state).

Last weekend, Alan and I packed A Sunny Afternoon picnic basket and headed to one of our favorite spots.  We brought along a blueberry banana loaf I whipped up and Alan’s favorite broccoli mac & cheese.  We usually switch up our main dishes and desserts, but stick to the basics: cheese (lots of it), grapes, hummus, and strawberries. The wood serving board is the perfect picnic accompaniment as it works as a server and cheese board.

Usually gals like to nap on picnic dates with their beaus, but Alan and I mix things up! He’s usually the one who zonks out and I read and pontificate the day.

Have I convinced you that you need more picnic in your life? If so, here are my 5 favorite places to picnic in Los Angeles:

Hollywood Forever – date night and a flick

Manhattan Beach Pier – breakfast and a beach date

Silverlake Meadow – lunch and some board games

Hollywood Bowl – dinner and tunes

Memorial Park – lunch and a lazy afternoon
