Take your place at the table

I’m a huge fan of Cajun flavors. I can’t say that Boiling Crab has authentic Cajun flavors, but I can say that you will get addicted to the sucking the spices off your fingers after peeling each shrimp and crawfish.

Unfortunately for those of you have been there, you know about the awful wait time. The last time I went to a Boiling Crab, they had a cut off for their long lines; they would tell customers they were no longer taking anyone in after a certain number of people. The take out line was even longer! So what do you do when you have those cravings but don’t want to wait in line all day?

Your next best thing is to try and make it yourself.

This Boiling Crab Cajun Shrimp Recipe I’m about to share with you is going off the “whole sha-bang” flavors- mild spicy. Some of you may want more heat. If that’s the case, take the nearest Louisiana hot sauce and douse into sauce mixture.

Alright, here you go.

Ingredients:

  • 4lbs. of Tiger Shrimp
  • 2 tsp. of Garlic Powder
  • 2 tsp. of Cayenne Pepper
  • 2 tsp. of Black Pepper
  • 2 lemons
  • 2 tsp. of Lemon Pepper
  • 2 tsp. of Louisiana Cajun Seasoning
  • 2 tsp. of Paprika
  • 2 tsp. of Old Bay Seasoning
  • 2 heads of fresh garlic
  • 1.5 stick of unsalted butter (clarified butter recommended)

1. Clean the shrimp by placing them in a bowl of cold, salt water.

2. Bring water to a bowl and prepare the seasoning for the pot. Mix the spices in a separate bowl (Old Bay, Garlic Powder, Cayenne, Lemon Pepper, Paprika, Black Pepper). Once the water is boiling add the spices in. Allow the boiling water to soak up the seasonings, then place the shrimp inside the boiling pot and cook for a few minutes.

3. While the shrimp are cooking, dice the garlic and melt the butter.

4. Once they are finished cooking, take them out into a mixing bowl. Add a slice of lemon, Cajun seasoning, some Old Bay Seasoning, the diced garlic, and clarified butter and mix all together by swirling the bowl around. Make sure that the seasoning is evenly distributed. If you want the shrimp to have a little more sauce, add a little bit of the seasoned water you cooked it in.

5. Serve with sides. Conventionally this Cajun recipe is served with corn, sausages, and potatoes. But we decided to serve it with some grilled vegetables, kale chips, herb mashed potatoes, and some steaks. So serve as you please.
