This ginger beer recipe has a subtle hint of fall with the cinnamon spice and crisp citrus.
Sometimes I feel as though I'm always behind the food trends. Â While my goal isn't to be trendy per se, I would just like to be up on current food affairs. Â First it was wilted kale. Â I heard tales of such a thing, but it took me quite some time to make it for myself. Â Then there were overnight oats. Â I don't eat a lot of oatmeal, but overnights sound so darn fun! Â I mean who can resist food in a jar?
Ginger beer is the latest food craze that I feel passed me buy. Â Ginger beer: those two little words make me giddy. Â Contrary to what the name indicates; it's not the beer you are thinking of, but it IS delicious!
This drink starts with a homemade ginger simple syrup.  Simple syrup is sugar dissolved in water and cooked until it reduces to, well, syrup.  You can add any flavor to your simple syrup that you like.  This recipe calls for fresh ginger that you add during the cooking process.  Allowing the ginger flavor to seep into your syrup will leave you with a deep, rich, almost woodsy flavor.  If you have leftover syrup,  pour it into a jar and keep it refrigerated.  It will stay fresh for a week.  Use this syrup in cocktails, hot or cold tea, or even lemonade.
Since it is fall, I added fresh tasting orange juice to my ginger syrup along with a sprinkling of cinnamon. Â Soda water adds effervescence that all ginger beer must have! Â Garnish your ginger beverage with a few cinnamon sticks and you have a unique fall-inspired drink that is sure to be a hit.
I'm so happy I jumped on this craze, as they say, better late than never!
