I have been loving this detox smoothie lately.
Although writing recipes for this site keeps me on track with mostly healthy meals, my snacks are typically whatever I can quickly grab: chips or pretzels, etc.
So I really wanted to come up with something equally as quick and convenient, but also new and interesting and more nutritious too.
This detox smoothie, filled with mixed berries, banana, and healthy chia seeds, fits the bill perfectly!
First, the mixture of berries gives this detox smoothie a deep pink, beautiful, vibrant color that just looks delicious.
And this detox smoothie tastes wonderful too, slightly sweet and slightly tart.
With a rich and creamy texture thatâs thick enough to eat with a spoon!
And itâs such a healthy, nutrient-rich recipe too.
Because itâs vegan, it has absolutely no saturated fat or cholesterol.
And (per serving) this detox smoothie is packed with:
This detox smoothie recipe makes six generous portions, so itâs easy to store individually sized portions in the fridge or freezer for a quick and easy snack or breakfast anytime.
Or if you prefer, itâs simple to cut this recipe in half to make just a few servings.
And for the step-by-step instructionsâ¦
The agave nectar is optional.
You can leave it out if you prefer to avoid sweeteners.
I much prefer the addition of agave. It balances out the tartness of the berries, and makes this smoothie delicious and enjoyable!
Grab a large mixing bowl and add some chia seeds.
Iâm a huge fan of chia because itâs packed with nutrients (tons of fiber, manganese, omega-3âs, plus calcium and protein!)
But it has a really mild, delicate flavor.
Blended with this detox smoothie, Iâm not able to taste the chia much at all.
I do notice its crunchy texture, which is kind of like lots of large strawberry seeds in the smoothie.
Just add some water to the bowl of seeds and stir it up thoroughly, until you can see that all of the seeds have been soaked with water.
Then toss the mixture into the fridge for the time being.
Grab bags of frozen organic strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries.
Helpful Hint: the berries will blend up far more quickly if you allow them time to thaw on the counter or in the fridge first.
Peel a couple of bananas, chop them into thirds and toss them into a food processor or blender.
Also add the berries.
If youâd like to really bring out the sweetness in this detox smoothie, add a bit of agave.
I use about four tablespoons in this recipe, but this can be adjusted to your own preference.
Use less (or none at all) if youâre trying to cut down on sugar intake.
(About half of the sugar in this recipe is found naturally in the fruit.)
Or use a couple of tablespoons more if you prefer your smoothie to be really sweet!
Substitute: the same quantity of organic honey or granulated sugar may be used as a substitute if you donât have agave.
Pulse until all of the ingredients are puréed.
Next, remove the mixing bowl of chia from the fridge.
By this time, the chia seeds should have really absorbed most of the water.
The mixture will now have a gelatin-like consistency.
Add this mixture to the food processor and pulse again until everything is well combined.
Itâs such a rich, thick, creamy treat, I like to eat it with a spoon!
This detox smoothie is sweet and slightly tart from the mixture of berries.
And the chia seeds add tasty texture.
Itâs a filling, energizing, healthy snack (or breakfast) that tastes delicious too!
