When it comes to healthy gums and teeth, routine flossing, brushing and rinsing alone will not keep your mouth, gums and teeth in good health! Even with these weapons to fight bacteria, you will need some reinforcements to assist.

Cheese in your diet

If you are one of those people that love cheese, here is another reason for you to enjoy this tasty food. It’s been found that by eating cheese, it will raise the pH in your mouth and lower the risk of getting tooth decay. Chewing longer when eating your cheese, will increase the saliva in your mouth. It also contains protein and calcium nutrients that will strengthen your tooth enamel.

Yogurt in your diet

The same as cheese, yogurt is very high in protein and calcium. It will be a good choice for your teeth’s health and strength to include it daily in your diet.

The beneficial bacteria or probiotics that is found in yogurt will benefit the gums. The good bacteria will crowd out the bacteria that normally cause cavities. When adding yogurt to your daily diet make sure to choose the plain variety that doesn’t have any sugar added.

Leafy greens

Leafy greens are full of minerals and vitamins but at the same time low in calories. Therefore, it can usually be found on any list of healthy foods. Your leafy greens like spinach and kale will promote oral health. They are also high in calcium, which you need to build your teeth’s strength and enamel.

Folic acid which is a type of B vitamin has many health benefits. It can also be found in leafy greens and it can possibly assist in treating gum diseases in women that are pregnant. If it is difficult to work it into your diet, try adding baby spinach in your next salad or put kale on your pizza. Additionally, you can try to add some greens into your smoothie.

Onions

Raw onions are one of your most potent bacteria-fighting foods. Bad breath might be an issue but that is why mouthwash and sugarless gums were created. It has an antimicrobial ingredient that will kill bacteria. Completely wiping out at least four bacteria strains that can lead to cavities and gum disease. To make it tastier you can top it with cream cheese or add to a salad.

Almonds

Almonds are a very good source of protein and calcium with low sugar content. Consequently, it will be great for your teeth. You can enjoy a quarter cup with your lunch or add some into your salad or stir-fry dinner.

Along with adding all of the above into your diet, you need to pay special attention to what you drink. Water should be your best pick with no sugar or calories, especially when compared to soda or juice. Your diet will make a very big difference to your healthy smile.
