Hendrick's Gin 'Fall All Over' Cocktail

While I do love experimenting with cocktails I’m also not adverse to using a brand’s recipe; as a matter of fact I welcome them. If the result is a great cocktail we all win…my time investment is shortened and you get a tried and true cocktail that I post because I loved it too. That the story with this Hendrick’s Gin ‘Fall All Over’ cocktail. Who doesn’t love the combination of apple, lemon and ginger beer anyhow? Adding gin is unique but what a great result it was!

In case you’ve noticed I missed two whole weeks of Friday Cocktails. I don’t know that that has ever happened before but I find that like other humans I too have my limits. It’s all about the yard and right now, it’s getting all of my attention.

Garden

When I moved to this house, the landscaping was included and I honestly thought I was ready for someone else to just put it in and let me maintain it. Until the realization hit me of what that meant. No beautiful designs and layers of plants like the model homes, no, it meant a couple of plants scattered at random in the front that were just like most of the plants in everyone else yard and then nothing in the back but grass and rock.

Front Garden

My resolve to just maintain crumpled quickly and I’ve been hard at work for two years now with Spring and Fall being prime time for getting work done. I finished the front (above) this Spring for the most part and had two big trees planted in the back where landscaping has really just been a dozen big pots filled with flowers, tomatoes and herbs. Now that Fall is here I’m working on some shrubs and a perennial garden underneath one of those trees. I seem to be able to focus on either gardening or cooking/cocktail making for the blog but not both.

Herb Garden

I’ve got some great recipes and ideas so I really wanted to share this one with you. As much as I wrap my fingers around Summer and refuse to let go, I also have to admit I can tell that Fall is in the air. Days in Colorado are still warm but not as warm. Nights are cooling off enough that I no longer need to keep windows open for the house to cool down. Early morning coffee on the porch means a jacket might be required and I can see one of those trees is already starting to turn a beautiful color of red.

So, this Fall cocktail is in order. Adding gin to the mix really makes it a great transitional cocktail; not quite as heavy as it would be with bourbon and with a freshness from the herbal bouquet. You know I’m a fan of Hendrick’s Gin so this one went down very easy.

The recipe calls for apple juice or cider which of course I had in the fridge…or so I thought. I honestly thought I could remember seeing the bottle of juice but in a pinch I punted and it worked great. One apple, peeled and core removed, put into my blender with a bit of water and voila…apple cider! You don’t have to do that but I must say, it was sure good!

Here’s to a beautiful Fall weekend and my not killing myself with yard work and to this Hendrick’s Gin ‘Fall All Over’ Cocktail….Cheers!
