Holtman’s Donuts | Review

When I heard from a bird that Holtman’s Donuts opened their doors in OTR, six blocks from our house, I literally did a foodie dance(similar to a touchdown dance). Growing up in Clifton, we had Graeter’s + Virginia Bakery, and that was where we went for our sweet treats. Unfortunately, Virginia Bakery is no longer with us (but they do have a brilliant cookbook out now, for those that miss her glory days). Then when I moved to the Wyoming neighborhood, in my high school years, it was a tradition to go to the Wyoming pastry shop with the family. Now in my twenties, and a downtown resident, ladies + gents I hope you are sitting down for this statement… because, I truly feel that Holtman’s Donuts beats out a local company that rhymes with shmishmaeter’s. That’s right, I said it. Before you walk through the doors of Holtman’s Donuts OTR location, make sure to look up and check out the superbly perfect pink donut sign. It will just make you smile and really sets the tone for your experience. After walking through the doors of Holtman’s Donuts, you are immediately hit by the aroma of freshly iced, yeast donuts. You are then greeted by a viewing window giving the onlookers an inside look on how Holtman’s Donuts are made. So if you have a wait (which I didn’t), look to your left and check out how the donuts (which you are about to engulf) are made. Now if you do not live in the downtown area, do not fret. Holtman’s Donuts has two other locations in Loveland and Williamsburg, but I suggest you head to the OTR location, and make it a day trip if you have to. Holtman’s Donuts is #Vapproved and my new favorite spot for Saturday mornings…or Monday…. or Tuesday…or Wednesday…you get the point - it’s that good.
