We have no problem confessing that weâve seen every episode of Sex and the City ten times each, and weâre guessing you have too. It has become our guide, really, for how to live in NYC, and anyone who knows and loves the show canât deny having dreamt about waking up as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, Samantha Jones, or Charlotte York-Goldenblatt. Weâve had the dream tooâ of sauntering the streets in stilettos with our 3 best friends, sipping cosmos, and gossiping about life and loveâ so weâve decided itâs time to make our dreams come true. And while, admittedly, we canât do much about the difficulties of walking the city in stilettos (damn you, Meatpacking), we can and we will offer our advice on the other stuff.
So listen up because these are our picks for where each character would drink and dine in 2015, since weâre guessing the scene has changed a bit since their day. And whether youâre a Miranda, a Samantha, a Charlotte, or a Carrie, weâve got you covered on where to go for a date, a drink, a GNO, or a quick lunch in each of their respective neighborhoods.
Go ahead, read through the list, and start living the dreamâ¦.
For those of you who never thought Miranda was cool, weâre here to tell you that she is. First off, she lives in Brooklyn and moved there long before it was cool. But aside from that, Miranda takes no bullshit, ever. Sheâs smart, down to earth, she does what she wants whenever she wants, and we love her for it. So get on the Miranda train if youâre not already because itâll take you to all those spots in the BK youâve been dying to try.
Date Spot: Gladyâs
Miranda is a no frills kind of girl and date night is no different. White linen table cloths? Sheâll pass. Tattooed hipsters making her pay $20 for a pizza? Sheâs not down. So for date night sheâll head to Gladyâs because while sheâs been known to order in Chinese on more than one occasion, if she must venture out itâll be for ethnic eats that she canât order on Seamless. And Gladyâs is certainly worth getting off the couch for, serving up Caribbean fare like goat curry and oxtail stew at a good price. Itâs fun, itâs casual, and, like Miranda, the food is serious without taking itself too seriously.
Address: 788 Franklin Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11238
 Post Date Drink: Franklin Park
To keep things low key and easy, Miranda heads to Franklin Park after dinner as itâs a mere 1 minute walk away. Itâs great for Miranda because when she wants a drink she wants it now, and she might want to play some skee ball while sheâs drinking. Franklin Park can give her all of these things plus a courtyard in the summer and a fireplace in the winter. Itâs a win/win.
Address: 618 St Johns Pl, Brooklyn, NY 11238
Drinks With The Girls: Maison Premiere
Though it might be a little fancy schmancy for Miranda, sheâs down to be extravagant for the girls. After all, if theyâre trekking out to Brooklyn the least she can do is pick a place theyâll like and thatâs decently close to the L train. But honestly, itâs nearly impossible not to like Maison Premiere with its INSANE oyster list, its outdoor patio, and its way of transporting you from Brooklyn to the south of France upon entry. Even Miranda canât resist its charm, and the rest of the ladies are jealous itâs not in their hoods.
Address: 298 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11211
Neighborhood Lunch: Di Fara Pizza
Di Fara ainât no Robertaâs or Paulie Geeâs, and thatâs exactly why Miranda loves it. Donât get us wrong, we LOVE Robertaâs and Paulie Geeâs, but this isnât about us. And when Miranda wants pizza she doesnât want it topped with hot honey, dandelion flowers, or fennel fronds. She wants cheese and pepperoni to go, please, and thatâs what she gets for lunch at Di Fara.
Address: 1424 Avenue J, Brooklyn, NY 11230
Oh Samantha. What could possibly be said about this confident and sexy Meatpacking District resident that hasnât already been said? Nothing, really, as Samantha has no problem speaking for herself. Sheâs blunt, sheâs bold, and she always tells it like it is. Sheâs sexy and she knows it (and she sure as hell makes sure EVERYONE knows it) so you can bet that her Meatpacking eating and drinking spots are just as sexy as she is.
Date Spot: Santina
Admittedly, it was hard for us not to give this one to a trendy sushi spot reminiscent of Samanthaâs iconic âcover my naked body in sushiâ Valentineâs surprise. But then we remembered that when going out Samanthaâs all about a good time, and there simply arenât enough seats at a sushi bar for a party. Santina, on the other hand, is indeed a party. It just opened from Mario Carbone and Richi Torrisi meaning itâs just about the most popular spot in town, and the whole place kind of feels like a beach party. So yeah, of course Samantha will be there.
Address: 820 Washington St, New York, NY 10014
Post Date Drink: Bathtub Gin
This one is a no brainer for Samantha, as is any bar containing bathtubs. A dark, speakeasy style gin den, Bathtub Gin is definitely trendy and sexy enough for Samantha. Because really, what gets you in the mood better than lounging in a bathtub while sipping a handcrafted cocktail? Not much.
Address: 132 9th Ave, New York, NY 10011
Drinks With the Girls:Â Gallow Green
Like all of us in NYC, Samantha loves a good rooftop bar, as theyâre full of fun, well-dressed people looking for a good time. That being said, Samantha and the girls wonât be found at Le Bain or the Beirgarten at The Standard because, ugh, theyâre just full of tourists these days. Instead, theyâll head up into Chelsea to Gallow Green. Itâs a bit more low key, the people there might actually live in New York, and everyone is still just as gorgeous as the views.
Address: 542 W 27th St, New York, NY 10001
 Neighborhood Lunch: Cookshop
Constantly buzzing, Cookshop is the perfect daytime spot for Samantha to see and be seen. Itâs frequented for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, but lunch is probably the best bet since itâs packed by 10:30am for brunch. Samantha knows this because Samantha just knows these kinds of things, so she never hesitates to stop by for a quick green juice or a leisurely gossip sesh with the girls.
Address:Â 156 10th Ave, New York, NY 10011
A classic beauty, Charlotte is always put together just right. Sheâs traditional, she likes things just so, and she ACTUALLY believes in love. We appreciate her optimism about love and life, but then again itâs probably not hard to be optimistic when you live in a glorious penthouse on the Upper East Side with your beautiful family. But in any case, Charlotte reminds us to appreciate whatâs good, solid, simple, and right, and her restaurant picks are just that. Thanks for the reminder, Charlotte, we needed it.
Date Spot: The East Pole
Though Charlotte has a deep, deep love for Gramercy Tavern, Per Se, Daniel, and the rest, sheâs also a modest gal who doesnât need a $50 filet mignon to make her happy. So for a casual date night she forgoes the big names and heads to The East Pole. Itâs a quaint, picturesque spot serving up seasonal and locally sourced veggie-centric fare, so Charlotte can enjoy her meal without it weighing on her conscience.
Address: 133 E 65th St, New York, NY 10065
Post Date Drink: Bemelmanâs Bar
They donât come more classic and timeless than Bemelmanâs Bar, and Charlotte is our queen of class. Quiet and cozy, Bemelmanâs Bar also happens to be named after the author of the Madeleine childrenâs books (do you see that wallpaper?), so Charlotte can have herself a cosmo without forgetting about the little ones back home. Which she appreciates, of course.
Address: The Carlyle Restaurant, 35 E 76th St, New York, NY 10075
Drinks With The Girls: Seamstress
Might be a little funky for Charlotte on an average evening, but sheâs willing to adjust when the girls come uptown. Seamstress is a new cocktail den that combines an old timey feel (leather bound menus, anyone?) with modern touches like a leather goods shop in the back. Itâs quirky and cool and Charlotte knows the girls will love a place where they can drink AND shop at the same time.
Address: 339 E 75th St. New York, NY 10021
 Neighborhood Lunch: Maison Kayser
Itâs true that since marrying Harry sheâs probably been spending more time at 2nd Ave. Deli than anywhere else (to satisfy his Jewish cravings, of course), but if sheâs dining solo or the girls are involved Maison Kayser is more Charlotteâs speed. A lunch cafe straight out of Paris (literally, thatâs where it first started), Maison Kayser serves all the salads, soups, paninis, and pastries you could ever desire and itâs cute and girly enough that Charlotte loves it.
Address: 1294 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10021
Though itâs true that throughout the series Carrie lives on the Upper East Side, allow us to let you in on a secret. Her building is actually located in the West Village, at 66 Perry Street to be exact. For us, weâre not surprised, as we totally see Carrie as a West Village babe. So weâre taking some creative liberties with this one and giving you the spots sheâd frequent in the West Village, since weâre pretty sure thatâs where sheâd be hanging anyway.
Date Spot: Almanac
Almanac has been at the top of nearly every list this year, so naturally it would be in Carrieâs regular date night rotation. Almanac specializes in ultra seasonal dishes (the break things down into early fall, mid fall, and late fall) so whatever theyâre serving will surely be just as fitting to the day as Carrieâs outfit, and weâre sure theyâll match perfectly.
Address: 28 7th Ave S, New York, NY 10014
Post Dinner Drink: Employees Only
The âsecret barâ before there were âsecret bars,â we know Carrie and Big (or whoever you want her man to beâ *ahem* Aiden) were frequenting Employees Only before we knew anything about it. Itâs got a 1920s vibe that Carrie canât resist and itâs owned by 5 serious New Yorkers that Big fits right in with. And even though it might not be as glamorous as Carrieâs usual spots, itâs where she goes to escape with her boyfriend-turned-ex-turned-fiance-turned-ex-turned-husbandâ¦
Address: 510 Hudson St., New York, NY 10014
Drinks With The Girls: Marlton Hotel
For some reason or another, the lobby bar at the Marlton Hotel along with the Restaurant inside, Margaux, has been packed with the fashion elite as of late, so you can bet itâs where youâll find Carrie and the girls having a drink. Itâs got an old school New York feel but serves a trendy crowd, so itâs perfect for someone like Carrie who loves a New York institution but doesnât want to sacrifice the glam. The Marlton has both, no doubt.
Address: 5 W 8th St, New York, NY 10011
Neighborhood Lunch:Â Claudette
Claudette is just about the most charming restaurant weâve ever seen, and Carrie looks no further when sheâs hoping to be transported to the south of France for lunch, which is often. Claudette is a serious lunch option (no grab-n-go chopped salad here), but Carrie is a serious lady who enjoys a bit of extravagance, and sheâs not afraid to shell out a bit of dough for a duck confit salad if it means she gets to show off her new Manolos. Because who needs rent money? Not Carrie.
Address: 10011, 24 5th Ave, New York, NY 10011
