The use of exotic spices in this recipe gives it an irresistible flavor. The main ingredient of the recipe is the special ‘masala paste’ which is prepared with a blend of spices, few cloves of garlic, half of the onions, red chillies, few pepper corns, a dash of tamarind and some vinegar. This adds to the tangy taste in this recipe. The vinegar helps to preserve this dish for a longer period of time when refrigerated. So, you can eat Prawn Balchao both as a side dish as well as a pickle.

How to Make Goan Prawn Balchao:

Recipe serving: 4
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

250 grams Prawn
2 pieces Onion
2 pieces Tomato
2 pieces Green Chilli
Curry Leaves
1 tablespoon Vinegar
4 cloves Garlic
1 inch piece Ginger
1 tablespoonTurmeric powder
1 teaspoon peppercorns
2 pieces Red Chilli
1 teaspoon Sugar
1 tablespoon White Oil
Salt to taste

Preparation:

Heat one tablespoon of oil in a pan. Fry the green chilies and chopped onions until it becomes golden brown and then add curry leaves, tomatoes, salt and ground masala. Now mix the fresh prawns and a little water if required. Cook for another 5 minutes on a medium flame. Now add a dash of sugar just to balance the flavor. Cook till the moisture is evaporated. Once done, Garnish it with chopped coriander and switch off the flame and serve.
