"A friend of mine told me she'd attempted to go meat free for a week a while back, but got to lunchtime on the first day and realised she didn't know what to cook. She didn't make it past breakfast." -Â Maria, Sustainable Table's Content CoordinatorÂ
Did you know that this week is Meat Free Week? Well, it is in Australia at least. I was scrolling through my instagram feed and saw several posts with the hashtag #meatfreeweek so I went down a herbivore rabbit trail and discovered that Australians are challenging their citizens to go meat free from March 24th-30th. Now you may be wondering why I'd blog about this since I live in Los Angeles. Well, I've been interested in doing a 30 day vegan challenge for a while now so when I saw my fellow earthlings promoting this campaign, I thought, "why not?"Â
If you're interested in joining our mates across the globe, it's not too late. I found a really helpful site that offers a free ebook that's filled with delicious meat free recipes as well as guidance for how to get through this week and what to do next if you want to continue with this lifestyle. You can grab that information here.Â
The ebook is filled with yummy meat free recipes from some of my favorite foodies. If you aren't interested in participating in this year's Meat Free Week, the ebook is worth downloading if you ever need inspiration for plant based dishes. Here is a list of the recipe contributors. My personal favorite on this list is Belle Gibson from The Whole Pantry. She adopted a plant based diet and started healing herself through foods after finding out she had brain cancer. Her food is always so beautiful and she doesn't use a ton of ingredients so they're always easy to make.Â
