Mulled Apple Juice is the perfect alternative to mulled wine and a great way to usher in the festive season. Kick off those heels, turn on some music and relax with a glass on a comfy sofa. (Equally good if you want to sip it while going about your festive cooking!)

Ideal for kids and abstainers alike.

Mulled apple juice

What you need:

750 ml Apple Juice

Juice from 2 oranges

Zest from 1 orange

½ teaspoon all spice powder

3 cloves

1 stick cinnamon

1-2 star anise

2 teaspoons sugar (or more, as per your taste)

Method:

  1. In a saucepan, pour the apple juice and the orange juice.
  2. Add in the sugar, orange zest, cloves, star anise and cinnamon
  3. Simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the all spice powder.
  5. Simmer for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Pour into fancy glasses and raise a toast to the holidays!

Notes:

I prefer to use Apple and Pear juice because it is sweeter than pure apple juice. It also needs less sugar than plain old apple juice.

This is a classic ‘a pinch of this and a little bit of that’ recipe. You just can’t go wrong. Go with the flow and throw in flavours that you enjoy.

The citrus and cinnamon will remind you of Christmas each time you make it.

Cheers!
