Take your place at the table

I’m not fond of most store-bought granolas, as I find them to be dry and tasteless, plus they are loaded with fattening and non-healthy ingredients. That is why I prefer to make my own granola and turn it into a healthy and delicious organic granola bowl.

Organic granola is made with rolled oats, raw agave syrup, cinnamon, raw pecans, pumpkin seeds, and hemp seeds. Your skin will be glowing with all the health packed “good” oils in this granola.

While making my organic granola, it dawned on me that I have a few favorite tools in the kitchen that I can’t live without. Such as my whisk. Many times I’m thankful when a recipe calls for whisking, rather than mixing. I don’t like doing dishes and a whisk is much easier to clean than a mixer. Next to my range, I have a drawer full of wood spoons. Seriously, I will use approximately 4 wood spoons, sometimes more, while making a meal. Then there is my non-aluminum baking sheets. If you eat healthy, you should cook healthy too, and a non-aluminum baking sheet keeps my food safe. Finally, my favorite gadget of all is my peach slicer. Not only does it slice peaches and/or nectarines perfectly, but it pits them too.

My kitchen is well stocked with tools and gadgets, but now it’s time to turn my dream kitchen into reality. Besides new counter tops and cabinets, I’m going to need some appliances too. My first choice in appliances will be this range by BlueStar, which I can design myself by choosing the size and color. How exciting!

It’s been a long day and I’m ready for bed. Time to go to sleep and dream about that new kitchen and range. When I wake up in the morning, I get to eat this delicious organic granola bowl again.

Sweet dreams.

organic granola bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 cup virgin coconut oil
  • 3/4 cup raw agave syrup
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 cups organic rolled oats
  • 1 cup raw pecan pieces
  • 1 cup shelled natural pumpkin seeds (pipettes)
  • 1/2 cup hemp seeds
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • Fresh fruit
  • Edible flowers

Instructions

  • Position the rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 350 degrees F. In a bowl, add the coconut oil, agave, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt; whisk until well blended.
  • In a large bowl, combine the oats, pecans, and pumpkin seeds; stir to blend with a wood spoon. Pour the coconut oil mixture over the oat mixture and stir to completely blend. On a baking sheet, spread the mixture in a thin even layer. Bake until the mixture begins to turn golden brown, stirring frequently, about 40 minutes. Remove from the oven; stir to loosen the granola from the baking sheet if necessary. Cool completely on the baking sheets. (Can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 1 week).
  • To assemble, in individual bowls, add 1/2 cup Greek yogurt, top with granola, fresh fruit, and edible flowers. Try sprinkling with additional hemp seeds too.
