Perhaps not the first city that comes to mind when you think of a Florida foodie vacation, Kissimmee nonetheless has plenty of delicious dining options. It's a hidden gem of relaxation in the heart of peninsular Florida, with access to Orlando and the theme parks but a distinctly quiet, charming and outdoorsy feel.
But what about the food? Here are three delicious dishes you should make time for while you're in Kissimmee - and where you can find them.

Key Lime Pie - Chef John's Place
Of course, the Florida Keys are renowned for their key lime pies, not Kissimmee - but hey, you're close enough, and trust me, this pie is as good as anything you can get down there. Glistening, tart, fresh key lime custard nestled in a sweet-and-salty graham cracker crust with a topping of fluffy whipped cream. Jackpot.

Lobster Bisque - Savion's Place
While everything on the menu is utterly delicious, their lobster bisque is a special treat - savory, creamy and sure to delight even the most discerning seafood lover. The steaks are also excellent; this is definitely the place to go if you're interested in rich food.

Florida Local Beer - The Brewery Barrel Bar
"Beer isn't a dish!" you may say. Sure, but why should that stop you from enjoying some? Stop in at this local haunt to get a taste of some of the best breweries that Florida has to offer, including beer from Cigar City Brewing, Cold Storage Craft Brewery, and Florida Beer Company. They also feature some of the tastiest bottles from around the world - Belgian ales, pale ales, stouts, porters, pilsners, you name it!
Why Kissimmee?
Other than the great dining, Kissimmee has a lot going for it. Florida's got a lot of great vacation options, but Kissimmee is special. It's a bit off the beaten path, but still close to the action - Orlando's theme parks are about 30 minutes away. Many of the options for accommodations are more spacious (think townhomes rather than hotel rooms) to help laid-back visitors feel comfortable and at ease. Nearby, there are state parks, golf courses, and lakes and springs - great for an outdoorsy vacation in central Florida.
If you're planning to visit, it may make sense to come in the off-season, but in general, one of the best parts about Kissimmee is that you won't be fighting crowds!
