I am always on the lookout for recipes that are simple and quick. And as summer steps in, the kitchen is the last place I want to sweat it out in.
Recently, while trawling through a House Beautiful newsletter, I came across this little para accompanying a photo gallery of tips on dinner party ideas. (Yes, I must admit Iâm hopelessly addicted to recipe hunts and glossy pics of well laid out tables. :) )
Hereâs the ârecipeâ for cheese straws.
âWe keep good Dufour puff pastry in our freezer and can whip up a batch of cheese straws at a momentâs notice. Sprinkle about 1/4 cup of grated Parmigiano-Reggiano on a cutting board. Lay a sheet of pastry on top and sprinkle more cheese over it. Roll the dough out about 1/8-inch thick. Cut into long strips and twist, like a corkscrew. Bake in a preheated 375-degree oven until golden and crisp.â
I tried it with regular puff pastry and loved it.
It makes wonderfully crisp and light batons. They make super snacks and very moreish when served with a cool summer cocktail.
This has now become my favourite recipe for cheese straws.
No more messing about with beaten eggs and endless rolling out of pastry. Itâs really quick and beats the store bought version any day.
