Tikhat Rava is not quite Upma but very similar to it since the base is semolina.
This has been a favourite teatime snack ever since we were kids. It makes for a great brunch too.
Serves : 3 as a tea time snack
Ingredients:
500 gms or 1 ½ cups of semolina
2 teaspoons ghee
1 teaspoon oil
2 teaspoons cumin
1 onion chopped fine
½ cup green peas, steamed
1 long green chilli (or 2 small ones), finely chopped
6-8 curry leaves
½ teaspoon turmeric
A pinch of asafoetida
Salt to taste
Chopped coriander for the garnish
Method:
Notes:
1. You can add potatoes, peeled and cubed. Add them in at step 2 along with the onions.
2. What works really well, (and Iâm sure my Pathare Prabhu readers will nod their heads vigorously here) is shrimp. Add the tiny fresh ones, again at stage 2. Absolutely delicious!
