Happy Thirsty Thursday everyone!! Start the weekend early with an easy and seriously potent beverage, the Trippy Gin Julep.
Woohoooo! Let the weekend begin!! Or almost begin. Soon enough it will be Friday and thatâs when my weekend fun starts. We are heading into Bostonâs seaport area to have dinner with friends visiting from Florida and I am so excited. Boston is so beautiful and is one of the best cities for walking around at night. Love popping in and out of different places, having a drink here, a dessert and coffee there. Before leaving, I always visit Bovaâs Bakery in the North End to take some of the city home with me too. Itâs open 24/7 and has the best of everything. And thatâs usually what I end up buyingâ¦everything.
Now onto the business (or recipe) at hand..this Trippy Gin Julep is everything Iâve ever wanted in a drink:
Say what? Yesâ¦absinthe. You know what they say, absinthe makes the heart grow fonder, so I decided to make a drink made with this snappy liquor to enjoy during these last few weeks of summer.
Speaking of summer, I drank one of these the other day while sitting out by the pool and let me tell you, this oneâs for the professionals only. Itâs one those drinks that doesnât actually taste strong butâ¦umâ¦yeah. You get the idea. Seriously dangerousâ¦
Trippy Gin Julep is a combination of some of my favorite elixirs: gin, ginger liquer (Domaine de Canton), and absinthe. Most people are unfamiliar with absinthe (aka Green Fairy), probably because of itâs crazy reputation back in the late 19th-early 20th century as having hallucinogenic qualities. Absinthe was then branded as evil and banned in the United States and most of Europe. Funny thing is that all those people that were âhallucinatingâ were just a bunch of really, really drunk people but it still took over 100 years for people to figure that out. Luckily, absinthe is now known to be completely safe to consume and has started to make a joyous return to the 21st century liquor cabinet.
This is the brand I buy. St. George Absinthe Verte. It has lots of herbal and floral notes with no artificial ingredients. I love it.
PS. for those skeptics still out there, trust me, I didnât hallucinate after drinking one of these Trippy Gin Juleps poolside. Not. One. Bit. Iâll admit, I did feel a little tingly, but I definitely did not see any pink elephants or purple spotted rhinos. Actually I might have seen those after the third one
So go get yourself some Green Fairy and donât wait until happy hour to enjoy this Trippy Gin Julep.
