After multiple attempts, the Union troops finally succeeded in taking over this town, which was one of the bitterest losses of the Confederates. The National Military Cemetery & Park, Vicksburg commemorates these events, and consists of reconstructed trenches, markers and monuments. Add the Gulf Coast Beaches to your Mississippi travel planner, as a visit to Mississippi is incomplete without lounging on these magnificent shores. Revisit your childhood and build sandcastles, revel in paddle sports, go on boat cruises and try kayaking. Extending from Mississippi’s Cat Island to Florida’s Santa Rosa Island, the Gulf Islands’ seashore is mostly submerged. Only the white sand beaches, dense maritime forests and coastal marshes of the barrier islands are what are left for exploration and enjoyment. The beautiful sands are something you can add to this trip to spend some time with nature!

Completed in 1903, the State Capitol was the 3rd building in Jackson, Mississippi, which cost over a million dollars to construct. Despite undergoing renovations between ’79 and ’83, the Capitol continues to retain the original architectural feel and design, as was intended during this restoration process. It is definitely a must-visit location due to its wondrous Beaux Arts flair. The 190-foot dome on the exterior is quite impressive as is the brightly illuminated interior with the liberty bell replica. Visiting this is like a journey into the American history itself!

It definitely comes as no surprise that people from all over the globe come to experience the beauty and learn American history in Mississippi. With a plethora of options as part of the Mississippi itinerary planner, the only problem is deciding which locations to skip and which to see.
