Did you know that today is World Water Day? It was started by the United Nations to increase people's awareness of water's importance in environment, agriculture, health and trade on December 22, 1992. Countries around the world were encouraged to develop activities to highlight local needs for water. I don't know where you live but I live in Los Angeles, CA. And I must admit that I don't have to think about water. In fact, I probably waste more water than I should when I am in the restroom brushing my teeth and washing my face. I remember when I was a child my mother would always get on me about turning the faucet off and taking EXTRA long showers. So I've never had to worry about not having enough water, I've lived with an abundance of it. Word Water Day has opened my eyes to this fact and helped me to be grateful about the most natural source of hydration we have access to on planet earth.Â
So what do people actually do on Word Water Day?Â
Many events are held worldwide during World Water Day. These include:
I'm personally not attending any events today. But what I am doing is thanking God above and the earth beneath me for never having to worry about water. I am encouraged to actually drink more water because I am often dehydrated and reach for other things to drink. But Henry David Thoreay said it best, " 'Water is the only drink for a wise man'. And I will just add on, "woman" to that declaration. Happy Word Water Day!
How has water impacted your life?
